Business energy prices fall as domestic prices continue to rise
Business energy prices fall as domestic prices continue to rise Gas and electricity prices have fallen in the business sector, although the dip is only expected to be temporary.
Two energy suppliers, BGB and EDF, have dropped their prices for the business sector at a time when domestic energy costs continue to rise.
Given the volatile nature of the business energy market, it is not clear if this trend will continue - and prices could rise again as soon as next week.
This means that any small businesses coming up to the end of their contracts, or moving into new premises could take advantage of this downward dip by comparing business energy prices and getting a good deal on a new energy contract.
The decrease in prices comes in stark contrast to the domestic energy market.
Earlier this month, ScottishPower announced a 19% rise in the cost of gas and 10% on electricity for domestic households, while Centrica boss Sir Roger Carr, warned that households should prepare themselves for further increases.
The cost of energy for businesses dropped after the International Energy Agency (IEA) was forced to dip into its emergency oil reserves to help reduce gas prices.
The move came as turbulence in the Middle East continues to affect international energy prices.
The sudden, if temporary, dip in energy prices means a rare chance for SMEs to take advantage of low energy costs by securing their prices at today’s prices.
