Cornwall renewable energy plant provides power to 400 homes

Cornwall renewable energy plant provides power to 400 homes Cornwall’s first solar energy site has been turned on, and at a cost of £4 million will use 6,000 solar panels to power local homes.

The renewable energy facility will provide energy for 400 homes, and is the UK’s largest solar farm, the BBC reports. But due to the government decision last month to restrict its Feed-In Tariff scheme to small-scale developments, the Cornwall development will not be followed by other similar projects. Conor McGuigan from Lightsource Renewable Energy, which helped develop the Wheal Jane farm, told the news provider that the government’s decision was a “huge setback”.”At this present time for us to make the reductions in CO2 emissions by 2020 I think it’s going to be very difficult to do that on a domestic scale and I think you need more parks like this to achieve those targets.”Last week it was reported that Great Ynys Farm, in Hereford, received help from the government’s Feed-in Tariff scheme to develop a unique way of producing energy – by using anaerobic digestion to process 700 tonnes of chicken litter into renewable electricity and heat.
